This is a new, unused traditional craft item, a "Takayama Chasen" (tea whisk) with 100 tines. It is a tea utensil used for whisking matcha, and the 100-tine type is characterized by its fine foam. The label is affixed as proof of preservation of technique by the "Yamato Takayama Chasen Production Cooperative," which has a history of over 500 years dating back to the Muromachi period. All processes are done by hand by skilled artisans in Takayama-cho, Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture (the only tea whisk production area in Japan). Although the item is unopened and unused, the case has some scuffs from storage.
