Leica Elmar 35mm F3.5 Old Lens L39 screw mount. Released in 1930. Leica's first wide-angle lens. It's the same size as the 50mm Elmar when collapsed, making it extremely small and thin. Despite its size, stopping down provides sufficient resolution for distant scenery and excels in street photography. However, being one of the earliest wide-angle lenses, it also has strong characteristics. I have prepared some sample photos taken with this lens. I took it for snapshots in Tamagawa. There's little blurring and high contrast. The color rendering is subdued and shallow. At maximum aperture, the periphery is heavily darkened, and when focusing closely, the periphery swirls, with the focus concentrated in the center. As you stop down, the increase in resolution becomes noticeable through the viewfinder. It doesn't have the modern, crisp sharpness throughout the range, but rather a painterly, vintage feel. Backlighting is also distinctive; when a strong light source is directly included, a perfect circular rainbow, as if a god has descended, spreads across the frame. The outer edges seem to be shielded even by a thin hood, so I recommend trying this out. 35mm isn't a flashy focal length, but the scenery captured with this lens is the world of old Leica itself. If you're careful with backlighting, there are no difficult situations, and it's a lens I'd recommend as a primary lens. This lens is truly small and thin, about the size of a collapsed collapsible lens, measuring about 14mm from the mount surface. The operation feels good, and the movement is smooth. There's no noticeable mold or haze, and it looks perfect in normal light. Only when shooting with a light source is there a slight coating unevenness, but it's in a clean condition. The exterior has only minor scratches from use, and I think it's in good condition, a beautiful item.
