Johann Friedrich Böttger developed a brown stoneware in 1707, later known as Böttger stoneware color. This was made using a reddish-brown clay containing iron, called "kogai nendo" (colloidal clay). Augustus the Strong, who had ordered Böttger to research and produce porcelain, established the Meissen porcelain factory within the same castle on June 6, 1710, and began本格的に the production of porcelain. On June 6, 1960, Meissen commemorated the 250th anniversary of the factory's opening by specially producing the brown stoneware that was being made at the time as a commemorative relief.
