Antique English Grafton 6184 A.B. Jones & Son Cup & Saucer Trio Hand-painted Floral Art Deco c. 1920-1939 This is a hand-painted piece typical of Grafton China. Rather than the A.B.J. stamp of A.B. Jones above the Grafton backstamp (1935-1948), this piece features the words "Handpainted," which is less common but occasionally seen. It is believed to have been manufactured earlier, around 1920-1939. As the backstamp suggests, the watercolor-like hand-painting is particularly impressive. While many pieces feature layered enamel for a three-dimensional effect or dazzling decorations, this piece has a very refreshing touch, giving a clean impression. It features a green-dominant pastel color scheme, but it is not overly fairytale-like; it also has an Art Deco feel. The harmony of colors and design is pleasing to the eye and calming. It's not too plain, nor is it too assertive, and it has a tasteful, characterful quality reminiscent of foreign interiors, making it perfect for display in a bookcase alongside figurines. Such pieces are surprisingly hard to find, and they are valuable. They are rare, and it's difficult to find them because the model names are not always clear, so when you find one, it's time to acquire it. The cup has a capacity similar to a Lishe shape and is the perfect size for coffee, making it easy to use. Cup: 8.3cm x 7.5cm Saucer: 14.3cm Plate: 16cm - 17.8cm The condition is good with a nice shine and beautiful patterns, but due to the age of the piece, there is a line that appears to be a crack a few centimeters from the rim of the cup, and a line that appears to be a crack across the entire center of the saucer, excluding the rim. The plate has a few millimeter-sized minor scratches on the back rim, but they are not noticeable. Please understand that there may be other manufacturing imperfections.
