Parker Jr. as "the essence of the Rhône and Provence," who also declared, "I love Chateauneuf-du-Pape." In the 14th century, when relations between the French king and the Roman Papacy were strained, the Papal Court moved from Rome to Avignon, and the Papal era continued for about 100 years. This is how the area came to be called "Chateauneuf-du-Pape = the Pope's new castle." Due to this historical background, the name, once called "Vin du Pape = the Pope's wine," officially became AOC Chateauneuf-du-Pape in the 1935 certification, and now 3200ha of vineyards spread across five villages. Its quality also produces the finest, long-lived wines with a firm richness and rich aroma, earning high praise.
