Purchased from an antique shop in Long Island, New York, USA. This is a very old, large wooden box for bottles. It has dividers and is deep vertically. It is said to be from around 1920. Like old Japanese beer crates, it seems this wooden box was used to deliver and store a lot of beer, siphon soda, etc., to bars and restaurants. It has dividers inside, making it more attractive for those who need compartments. As you can see in the photos, it is carefully made with notches and wooden joints. The dividers can be removed if not needed, but it doesn't seem easy. The edges are reinforced with iron bands, making it sturdy. It has the lettering of a Long Island beer maker from that time, which is lovely. The letters are still clear despite its age. I was told that this kind of authentic, divided, very old wooden box is now difficult to obtain even in America. It has a very shabby and chic appearance. Similar wooden boxes are really convenient for storage, tidy up the room, and are chic as interior decor, so I have several of them in my home that are in use. The balance of the wood and the lettering is beautiful, and it's really wonderful just to display. The condition is as it was when purchased. As shown in the photos, there are missing parts on the bottom board, scratches, rust on the metal, and damage, but it's a wooden box full of antique feeling that makes you think "this is antique!"
