Himuro Shrine is a shrine located in Nara City. It was once a base for the Nanto Gakuso (Nara Court Music Bureau). Its history is recorded in the "Himuro Shrine Engi" picture scroll, and is also mentioned in the "Shoku Nihongi" and "Genyoki." It began in July 710 (Wado 3), when Emperor Genmei ordered the worship of the Ice God at the Tsukihibashi rock on Mount Kasuga, upstream of the Yoshikigawa River. Hand-written Goshuin bag I was very moved when the chief priest made a hand-written Goshuin bag on official paper when I received the hand-written Goshuin and asked for a Goshuin bag (photo). Also, I was grateful, deeply moved, and impressed because I was purified with a flint stone when I received it, which was a first for me. It is said that it began in the Nara period, when the guardian deity of the Ice Pond and Ice Chamber (ice storage) built in Kasugano along the Yoshikigawa River was enshrined, and later moved to its current location. The shrine is deeply revered by ice-making and sales businesses, and the Kenhyosai (Ice Offering Festival) is held every year on May 1st.
