This is a tea bowl from January of Heisei 9 (the Year of the Ox). It is a tasteful bowl with the characters "Ken-gyu" (Seeing the Ox) and a picture of an ox. "Ken-gyu" is a Zen term meaning "to look at oneself," and it seems the design incorporates the zodiac sign of the ox.
