It is made by vegetable tanning tightly grained nubuck leather, dyeing it on a hill, adding oil, and then hand-rubbing wax into each piece. The wax is melted and rubbed in, and then a large hand iron is used to thoroughly soak the wax into the leather. This process is repeated 3-4 times. This creates a deep color and a smooth texture. Dyes, rather than pigments, are used for dyeing, meaning the dye soaks into the leather. The hand-rubbed wax adds depth to the color, resulting in a transparent color with a soft color unevenness, unlike a uniformly applied color. This leather is enjoyable to use and will deepen in character over time, showing aging. It is "tea-core" leather, with a brown core.
