This is a fukuro obi (formal obi) by Toruo Uchikoshi, a Kyo-Yuzen artist. He selects the fabric and creates his works primarily using wireless Yuzen (a technique of direct painting without using resist paste), gradation dyeing, and wax-resist dyeing. He is particularly skilled at creating pictorial designs, which are a characteristic of wireless Yuzen. He has exhibited in numerous competitions and won many awards, and has a large following among kimono enthusiasts. The obi has a refined appearance, not too flashy, with pale white patterns on a gradation-dyed background. The high-quality, raised-weave fabric creates a rich and expressive back view. The artist's signature is placed below the otaiko (the folded part of the obi). The reverse side features a flower-shaped rising-water pattern woven with lame thread.
