Thank you for looking. A beautiful short story about reincarnation, like reading Hermann Hesse. The director and screenwriter Villiers' wife is Indian, and it depicts the Indian view from a Western perspective with a touch of longing, yet remains authentic. Ten-year-old Manika is a lovely girl living in a fishing village on the coast of the Indian Ocean. One day, she announces that she is the reincarnation of a woman who had a husband and lived happily in a past life but died during childbirth, and runs away from home to find her past life husband. Father Daniel, a teacher, tries to dissuade her and accompanies her to Nepal... J. Sands looks beautiful in his monk's robes, and the young girl A. Dharkar makes a vibrant screen debut (she later appeared in "City of Joy"). The supporting cast, including S. Audran as a nun in a Nepalese meditation temple, are also excellent and enhance the girl's charming adventure. And, as with all films set in India, the cinematography is superb.
