Shippo-yaki (cloisonné) is a metal craft technique, one of Japan's traditional crafts, where beautiful vitreous enamel is applied to metals such as gold, silver, and copper, and then fired at high temperatures. The name "Shippo-yaki" is said to originate from the beauty of the seven treasures (shippo) mentioned in Buddhist scriptures – gold, silver, pearls, agate, lapis lazuli, coral, and amber – which are said to be inlaid.
