This is a Criterion Collection box set featuring 25 Zatoichi films starring Shintaro Katsu. You can watch all the films except for the 1989 film "Zatoichi" directed by Katsu Shintaro himself. The Blu-ray BOX released by Kadokawa Shoten only includes 18 films made by Daiei, and does not include "Zatoichi and the Bodyguard," a collaboration with Toho, or the films by Katsu Pro, so this is a much better deal. The picture quality is clear and good as this is an official Criterion product. Although it is an import, it can be viewed without any problems on domestic playback devices. I have only watched a few of the films.
