Focusing on the original drawings of illustrator Kuni Fukai, the film pursued visual beauty to the fullest, using a technique that moves illustrations rather than cel animation. Gisaburo Sugii participated as animation director. Aiko Nagayama voiced the protagonist Jeanne, and Tatsuya Nakadai played the devil. The original work is the novel "La Sorcière" by French historian Jules Michelet. The setting is a medieval French village. Jean and Jeanne were about to be married, but the tyrannical lord demanded the droit du seigneur. Jean begged him to spare her, but his wish was not granted, and Jeanne became the lord's plaything. Afterwards, a famine struck the village, but Jean and Jeanne were able to eat comfortably thanks to her spinning thread.
