This is an Arita ware incense container (kogo). This incense container is designed in the shape of the Noh mask "Okina" (old man). An incense container is a small lidded vessel used to hold incense or kneaded incense (neriko), and is used in tea ceremonies and as Buddhist ritual objects. However, due to its moderately small size, it is often used as a small item container or a delicacy container. This incense container was sold as an outlet item by an Arita ware trading company. Although it is an outlet item, it has only minor imperfections such as iron powder (small brown dots) from the manufacturing process, and there are no scratches or cracks. It is a new, unused item.
