This is a pair of 1970s 505 jeans purchased in 1995 at Vintage King in Harajuku for approximately 65,000 yen. Labeled size: W36 Waist: 90.5cm (43.5cm flat) Thigh width: 33.5cm Hem width: 20.6cm Inseam: 78.6cm These are from a period equivalent to the early 66s of the 501s, and they have a beautiful fade. The first digit indicating the year on the inner tag is difficult to read clearly, but it appears to be June, 197? (the last digit is unclear), Factory 5. When purchased, the jeans had the original chain stitch hem, and I wore them with the hem cuffed. However, after a while, without thinking, I had them hemmed normally, which I now regret. (The cut fabric has been lost.) Currently, they are in a cut-off state, and the edges have been stitched with a lockstitch machine to prevent further fraying (Image 9). When considering a hem transplant, I opened the side seams slightly (Image 13). You can wear them as they are, rolled up, or in the cut-off state. However, it might be best to send them to a repair shop for hemming with a Union Special machine and distressing. After washing, they have been stored in a dark place with mothballs (Mushi-da) and a dehumidifier. Strong-smelling detergents and fabric softeners have not been used.
