This is an N-1 deck jacket from the late 1940s. Black stencils are common, but this N-1 is a special piece with a yellow stencil on the back. While those with white or black stencils remain in relatively large numbers, yellow was used more sparingly for visibility, making this a rare and highly collectible item. Since there are many N-1 jackets, differentiating them by their stencils is a good way to appreciate them! The USN stencil suggests this is from the earlier period, and the zipper appears to have been replaced with a non-conmar zipper, which has also been damaged. The zipper is broken.
