This is a sharkskin dou (chest protector) with a chest piece made by Izumi Kou. As you can see from the assembly, it was assembled directly by the late Mr. Izumi Kou himself. The dou-dai (body) is one-day-painted. The sharkskin was originally patterned tiger shark leather, but the pattern was deliberately removed and polished black. Because of this, various patterns have emerged, resembling willow sharkskin, with the grains arranged in unusual ways, some far apart and others clustered like snowmen. The central "belly button" also consists of three overlapping grains instead of one. Whether this is good or bad, I don't know, but I've never seen anything like it, so it's a matter of personal preference. I made this over 15 years ago with the intention of using it myself, but people around me said, "It's too good for you, sell it to someone who wants it," so I'm putting it up for sale. The chest piece is a genuine cloud S-shaped design with all dark navy blue wave-and-plover pattern, and the side legs are the optional three-legged type. Normally, there are two legs, but I went all out and had it made with three. The price is not cheap, so please understand. If it doesn't sell, I plan to use it myself for the new year.
