Only one species, Yutyrannus huali, is known, which lived in northeastern China during the Early Cretaceous period. It is the largest of the feathered dinosaurs with confirmed feathers reported by 2012, with an estimated length of about 8 meters. Morphology The description paper established distinguishing characteristics that differentiate Yutyrannus from its direct relatives. There is a high crest on the midline of the snout, which is constructed from the nasal and premaxillary bones and covered with a large pneumatic depression. The postorbital bone has a small secondary projection, which projects towards the bend behind the eye.
