This is a fan with a ginkgo leaf design, a symbol of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony, inscribed with the two characters "雅正" (Gasei). Gasei, as the characters suggest, means elegant and correct, and I believe it was inscribed as an important word in the world of tea ceremony. On the back of the box lid, there is a written inscription: "自毫雅正二字扇面 辛丑年 今日主 (Kagyō)" (Self-inscribed Gasei on a fan, Year of Kanoto-Ushi, Kyōshū). Since Kanoto-Ushi refers to 1961 (Showa 36), it is understood that this was inscribed in his later years. The Ichimonji-style wind band is made of Takeyamachi fabric. The overall condition is good. The eldest son of the 13th Grand Master Ennosai of Urasenke. His childhood name was Masanosuke, and his art name was Sekiso. He succeeded as the Grand Master at the age of 30. He established the Tankokai for the unification of the school and the International Tea Ceremony Culture Association for overseas promotion and cultural exchange. He received the Medal of Honor with Blue Ribbon, the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon, and the Order of the Rising Sun, Third Class, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. He died in a lodging in Hokkaido in 1964 at the age of 71.
