I felt reassured just having it. The white pile fabric is clean and in good condition. There is a slight discoloration on the edges, possibly from the adhesive or glue. I think the part that the baby touches is clean. It's also washable, so it should be easy to use. I don't know what the Velcro on the patterned side is for.
