This is a set of Imperial clock and 7-light candelabras made in Italy. The base and candelabras are made of marble, giving them a substantial weight. All 7 candelabras are made of brass. They are often mistaken for angels, but they are not. They are depictions of the ancient Roman god Pan, who has the upper body of a human and the lower body of a goat. The rooster on top of the clock is a male chicken. Certain breeds of chickens/roosters were considered sacred in ancient Rome and were used when making important decisions. The vines that Pan is holding are grape vines. Grape arabesque patterns symbolize abundance and prosperity, and because grapes grow by winding in all directions, they are treated as symbols of success and good luck. They also have the meaning of prosperity of descendants and being blessed with children. Made in Italy by Lancini Imperial. Marble, Brass.
