This item was purchased as a souvenir by the seller's father during a trip to Akan Lake Onsen in Hokkaido in 1978. It was bought at a folk craft shop called Yukara-do. The original sticker from that time and the inscription, believed to be carved by the shop owner, are still present. At first glance, it appears to be a carving in the style of the Sunazawa school, but it seems to be the work of a different carver. It depicts an Ekashi, a dignified Ainu elder.
