This is a 20cm plate from the Herb Garden (Inglace) collection. It was a gift, and I'm offering it for sale as I have no use for it. About Herend: Herend is a village located about 120km southwest of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. In 1839, Mór Fischer purchased a small pottery factory there. Since then, the factory switched to porcelain production and focused on tableware manufacturing. In 1862, the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory, established by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, closed down, and Herend was allowed to inherit its designs, instantly becoming a renowned European porcelain manufacturer. In 1866, when Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria also became the Emperor of Hungary, Herend's tableware began to grace the banquets of the imperial court. Under the patronage of the Habsburg family, known as the aristocracy of aristocrats, Herend captivated the royal families and nobles of Europe, including Vienna. Thus, along with the flourishing Austrian court, Herend developed significantly. Today, Herend continues to uphold the tradition of being entirely handmade, from shaping to painting, while also creating new motifs one after another.
