1075 Rare Chigusa Ningyo (Chigusa Doll) Chigusa Kai (Chigusa Association) A Kabuki doll for wall hanging. "Chigusa Ningyo originated when a housewife who had evacuated to Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, brought back Kogushi dolls to Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, shortly after the war. In 1951, training began at the Hyogo Prefectural Women's Association, and our teacher, Ryo Araki (1900-2001), made improvements. In contrast to the Kogushi dolls, which depicted the customs of the common people of Hagi, the Chigusa Ningyo was adapted to the atmosphere of Ashiya, pursuing elegance and completing it as a glamorous, four-sided doll. Then, it was named 'Chigusa Ningyo' by Katsuyo Hirose, the chairman of the Hyogo Prefectural Women's Association at the time. Chigusa Ningyo was also presented as a congratulatory gift for the wedding of Princess Anne of the British Royal Family.
