These are Namasu plates from the Meiji era. Each one is handmade, so they have irregular shapes. I think the unevenness adds to their charm. They are not uniform like modern mass-produced tableware. They have a unique, deep blue染付 (sometsuke) design, and the blue lines around the plates are also uneven or slightly off, but I think that adds to the handmade feel. Some local Japanese restaurants intentionally use old tableware for their service. I hope you will enjoy using these old plates in your daily life and cherish them. They have depth, so it's easy to serve dishes with sauce, such as simmered dishes, nikujaga (Japanese meat and potato stew), and nanbanzuke (marinated fish).
