This is a single-hand Buddhist prayer bead (Juzu), a simplified version suitable for all Buddhist sects, made by Kazuya Shirobe of Koyasan using Bodhi seed beads. The small black spots on the surface of the beads are called "stars," and the single larger indentation is called the "moon," which is how it got its name. The beads will develop a luster and change to an amber color the more they are used. This is a very popular material that brings a deep sense of satisfaction and blessings to the wearer.
