This is a set of 6 Sendai Tsuishu plates. There is 1 large plate and 5 small plates. These are unused items that have been stored for a long time. Although unused, there are some scratches. Also, the large plate has noticeable scratches on the surface (see image 6). Please refrain from purchasing if you are concerned about this. Sendai Tsuishu is lacquerware made by applying layers of vermilion lacquer to a molded base or wooden base, and then adding an antique look with black. Its origins are in China, and it is said that Einojo Kawasaki, a craftsman of Murakami Tsuishu in Niigata Prefecture, came to Sendai in the Meiji era and laid the foundation for Sendai Tsuishu. With its fine carvings and the oriental beauty of vermilion and black, Sendai Tsuishu is a local craft that Sendai is proud of.
