This is a fukuro obi (formal obi) I received from my aunt. The details are unknown, but it appears to have been used very little. It has been stored for a long time and has some fold creases. The gold background evokes gold leaf, and the patterned areas feature seigaiha (wave) patterns woven in, with colorful family crests scattered throughout. The pattern is only on the front and the taiko (drum) portion, so I believe it is a type called otaiko-gara (taiko pattern). The design has a classic, orthodox feel, so I think it falls into the category of fukuro obi suitable for semi-formal to formal occasions.
