Regarding the auspicious characters on the bamboo tube, there is some blurring. The area around the characters is whitish, so I think it may have been slightly scraped to make the ink adhere easily. Perhaps that's the reason. The original box has some stains and dirt, but overall, I think it's a beautiful item. This is a bamboo tea scoop by Shoto Genki Osho. He is the chief priest of Myotem-ji Temple of the Daitoku-ji school. There is an inscription by Chashakushi Totokusai on the bottom of the original box. The inscription is "Kissho" (Auspicious). Kissho is a word that means a good omen, a sign of good fortune, happiness, and prosperity, so it's perfect for the first tea ceremony of the year. Also, I think it would be good especially when there is something celebratory or when something celebratory is likely to happen (?!).
