The fluffy, sheer net, similar to silk, creates beautiful shadows with its soft threads. A rare and stylish textile, produced in small quantities as a sample by a top designer of the time, and displayed in a museum within a Victorian-era factory. The top is hand-sewn. The hem is finished with small zigzag cuts from pinking shears. The sides are selvedges, providing practical strength. The flat reverse side is also beautiful. The name originates from the fact that a manufacturing factory for the highest-quality curtains for the UK and Europe was established in Madras, India, during the 19th-century Victorian era. The original lace looms were inherited from India and used in Scotland for weaving. Madras, the highest grade, surpassing even the fine 14-point Nottingham lace, with the smallest mesh.
