This is a two-tiered lunch box made with Hida Shunkei lacquerware. It is a product made by hand-painting natural wood with lacquer. The lightness and the amber-colored luster of the lacquer, unique to Shunkei lacquerware crafts, are attractive. The bending technique, which gives a three-dimensional finish to the wood, is particularly excellent, and this lunch box utilizes that skill. The side panels showcase the techniques of bentwood craftsmanship. As shown in the photo, a single board is bent and joined.
