Acquired from an antique collector. This is a Kutani ware ochoko (small sake cup) believed to have been made in the late Meiji to early Taisho period. On the inside, there is a design of karako (Chinese children) on a gold background, and the rim is decorated with red painting and gold accents in a radiating pattern and swirling motifs, meticulously applied. The contrast between the red painting and gold accents is beautiful, and it is a highly decorative piece despite its small size. There is a red "福 (fuku - fortune)" square mark on the underside. It is thought to be in the style of the revived Kutani or export Kutani of the Meiji period. As it is an old piece, we ask that those who understand antiques and old art purchase it.
