Shimazu Satsuma Kiriko, supervised by Shoko Shuseikan Museum, made by Satsuma Glass Crafts, is a red Kiriko Mukouzuke bowl. Satsuma Kiriko is made with a sophisticated technique of wiping colored glass and then adhering transparent glass inside, and carving delicate patterns on its surface. It has a sense of weight despite its size, and the soft gradation of the cut parts, created by the thick colored glass, is very attractive and beautiful. This item is a Mukouzuke bowl, so when compared to a small sake cup (see photo 11), it has a surprising presence. The popular red color features the sixteen chrysanthemum crest and the bottom chrysanthemum crest, making it a masterpiece where you can enjoy the beautiful form and fantastic gradation.
