This is a rare, small-sized Noh fan featuring a beautiful contrast between white cranes and red flowing water on the unique gold-rubbed foil of Jushomatsuya Fukui. The gold-rubbed foil may initially appear as if the paper has deteriorated, but this is a technique that creates a cracked-like pattern, a highly advanced skill only Jushomatsuya Fukui can achieve. The foil is applied over thinly stretched raw silk, and after drying, the raw silk is removed. Because the foil does not adhere to the raw silk, a spiderweb-like foil pattern is created.
