◾ I am offering for sale a favorite ayu (sweetfish) rod from among the four Japanese-style rods I own. ◾ This rod was purchased in the early Showa 50s (around 1975), after I was captivated by an Ishu ayu rod in the show window of the Tsuruya fishing tackle store in Kyobashi. ◾ It's a three-and-a-half-ken (about 6.3 meters) rod, lightweight, with a beautiful lacquer finish, two-piece construction, and made of all-male bamboo and Hotei bamboo. ◾ It's still in excellent condition, just as it was then, with no sagging or creaking, a testament to the quality of Ishu rods. ◾ In an era without carbon fiber rods, I used this rod exclusively for live-bait fishing, and I caught large ayu in the mid-section of the Kano River, in the rapids below the Shuzenji Bridge. ◾ The rod's action is a mid-action, similar to the popular rods of today, with the third section bending beautifully when an ayu is hooked, providing good power. It can handle up to a size 3 weight.
