His final rank and title were Marshal, Army General. His court rank, decoration, merit, and peerage were Junior First Rank, Grand Cordon of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum, First Class Merit, and Duke. He served as Home Affairs Minister (9th), Home Minister (1st), Prime Minister (3rd and 9th), Justice Minister (7th), President of the Privy Council (5th, 9th, and 11th), Commander of the First Army, Member of the House of Peers, and Chief of the Army General Staff (5th). His childhood name was Tatsunosuke, and his common names were Kosuke. From 1864, he used the names Kyosuke, Kosuke, Kyosuke, and Kyosuke. He also used the pseudonym Hagiwara Shikanosuke. He adopted the name Aritomo from 1871.
