Mexican parkas are said to have originated in the 1930s. In America, it began in the 70s when California surfers brought them back from surf trips to Baja California, Mexico. In the counterculture of the 70s, it became explosively popular, spreading not only to surfers but also to hippies and outlaws. Jeff Spicoli, played by Sean Penn, wears one in the 1982 film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." The Molina Mexican parka has a nice touch with its paper tag that hasn't changed in years. Being made in Mexico, there are variations in sewing and size. Other colors, such as combo and natural, are also available.
