Graduated from Kyoto Hosei School (now Ritsumeikan University) and Jingū Kōgakkan (now Kogakkan University). After serving as a teacher at Yamanashi Prefectural Girls' High School and as a consultant to the Ministry of Home Affairs, he became a professor at Ritsumeikan University in 1934 (Showa 9). After the war, he became a professor at Kindai University in 1948 (Showa 23) and Senshu University in 1955 (Showa 30). His main work is "Daijiten of Family Names and Lineages" (3 volumes, 6673 pages in total, published 1934-1936, reprinted in 1963 by Kadokawa Shoten), and he has many other works, including "Ancient Japanese Clan System," "Collection of Historical Materials on Japan" (12 volumes), "Dictionary of Family Names and Lineages," and "Family Names and Lineages."
