This is a hanging scroll my father bought as a souvenir from Hanshan Temple. It has been stored at my parents' home for a long time. ◾️Wago Ni Sen (Two Immortals of Harmony) These are gods from a folk legend who preside over marriage, marital harmony, and family relationships, also known as Wago Nisei (Two Sages of Harmony). They are based on a person named Bankai from the Tang Dynasty. Legend has it that he went to the battlefield for his parents, who were crying for their brother who had gone to war. He traveled a distance of ten thousand *ri* (a unit of distance), departing in the morning and returning at night, hence he was called "Bankai." He was also known as "Brother Bankai" among the people, symbolizing family harmony, and was enshrined as the god of "Wago" (harmony) from the Song Dynasty. ◾️Hanshan Temple Bell 月落烏鳴霜満天 (The moon sets, crows cry, frost fills the sky) 江風漁火對愁眠 (River wind, fishing fires face sorrowful sleep) 姑蘇城外寒山寺 (Outside Gusu City, Hanshan Temple) 夜半鐘聲到客船 (Midnight bell sounds reach the guest boat) This poem was written by Zhang Ji, who traveled to Suzhou in the Yangtze River basin. Perhaps due to melancholy, he couldn't sleep. With no moonlight and enveloped in frost, he saw the wind crossing the river and fishing fires. Then, the sound of the bell (announcing dawn) from the distant Hanshan Temple reached his boat. Size of the main body: Approximately 173 x 48.5 cm Size of the paper: Approximately 116 x 38 cm Two beautifully printed works are pasted together, one above the other. The hanging scroll has some warping, and there are some stains on the margins of the paper around the main body. If anyone understands, I would appreciate it if you would consider it.
