An exhibition of a framed, handwritten calligraphy by the 8th Abbot of the Kyoto Tenryu-ji School, Master Mokuo Seki (trial writing in 1952). Guaranteed original. Calligraphy: "Sitting and Watching the Clouds Rise" (My amateur research may be incorrect.) Please forgive me. Wonderful calligraphy Framed size: (Height) 42cm x (Width) 123.5cm Calligraphy size: (Height) 28.5cm x (Width) 97.5cm Master Mokuo Seki was born in Gunma Prefecture in April 1903. While attending Keio University's Faculty of Medicine, he resonated with the ideas of Mushakoji Saneatsu's "Atarashiki Mura" (New Village) and dropped out of university to enter the "Ai no Mura" (Village of Love) at the foot of Mount Ibuki in Gifu Prefecture, where he guided local youth while baking tiles. In 1928, he received the tonsure at Zuigen-ji Temple nearby. In 1930, he entered the Tenryu Zen Dojo and studied under Seki Seisetsu. In 1937, he became the chief priest of Toji-in Temple. In 1939, he became the teacher of the Tenryu Sodo. In 1946, he became the Abbot of the Tenryu-ji School. He was also known as Dashi. His own temple was Toji-in Temple in Kyoto. "As of March 1989" This calligraphy was sent to the Niigata painter "Yoshisen Yoshihara" in the autumn of 1951 when he visited Tenryu-ji Temple with his mother. (The painter himself wrote "treasure (trial writing)" on the back of the frame.) The painter's art book also mentions the visit to Kamigata with his mother. This item is very old. There are stains, dirt, and damage to the frame. There is also damage to the back of the frame. (Photos ⑥⑦) Please check the condition in the photos before bidding.
