This is the original DS my older sister used to own. It works fine. Back is cracked. Touch pen is missing. One side of the folding part is loose. I don't have any earphones, so I haven't been able to check if they work. When a game doesn't respond, it reads after turning the power off and on a few times, or by removing and reinserting the game cartridge. The charger sometimes doesn't work well, but it charges if you adjust the angle. When you start a game, the edges of the screen are a little red. I think it's fine for someone who just wants to use it.
