It depicts a horse pulling a rice bale, and is called "Komabiki" (horse pulling) or "Nitawara-biki-sen" (two-bale-pulling coin). Rather than as currency, it was used as a good luck charm, amulet, children's toy, or as a celebration for the topping-out ceremony (fukusen - lucky money).
