This was used for professional work, so there is some lacquer residue, but it is dry and there is no risk of a rash. I own about 10 lacquerer's small knives for work, and this one has a slightly obtuse blade angle and the steel is a bit softer, but it's easy to sharpen and cuts very well when maintained, so it's a perfectly adequate specification even for professionals. It's not a cheap steel that can be obtained for under 10,000 yen, so I think it will last a long time and have decent toughness. The ones that curve as they go towards the tip are useless for work, so if there are any lacquer students out there, you can use this as is. The fittings are practical, not aesthetic, as the sheath has been reinforced with cloth to prevent it from cracking. I will sell it to those interested in craftsman's tools.
