I am selling a set of five vintage Chinese special stamps featuring "Jingju Danjiao (Female Roles in Peking Opera)". Symbol: T.87 Issue Date: July 20, 1983 Issuing Authority: Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China The roles in Peking Opera are broadly divided into four categories: "Sheng (male roles), Dan (female roles), Jing (painted-face roles), and Chou (clown roles)". Among them, "Dan" is the general term for female roles. Depending on the character's age, status, personality, and characteristics, they are roughly classified into seven types: "Zhengdan (serious female roles), Huadan (vivacious female roles), Tiedan (older female roles), Guimendan (young unmarried female roles), Wudan (martial female roles), Laodan (old female roles), and Caidan (comic female roles)". The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China issued this commemorative stamp to introduce the expressive art of Chinese Peking Opera. The design of Stamp 1 (upper left) is called "Chen Miaochang". The design features Chen Miaochang, a nun from the Peking Opera "Autumn River". The design of Stamp 2 (upper right) is called "Shisanmei". The design features He Yufeng, a female knight-errant from the Peking Opera "Shisanmei". The design of Stamp 3 (lower left) is called "Qin Xianglian". The design features Qin Xianglian, the heroine of the Peking Opera "Qin Xianglian". The design of Stamp 4 (middle bottom) is called "Yang Guifei". The design features Yang Yuhuan from the Peking Opera "Drunken Concubine". The design of Stamp 5 (lower right) is called "Bai Suzhen". The design features Bai Suzhen, the White Snake spirit from the Peking Opera "Legend of the White Snake". These are actually used stamps from that time. Stamp 3 (lower left), "Qin Xianglian", has a scratch on the back, but the others are in good condition for used stamps from that time. Please check the images for details. No returns or exchanges.
