Daguerreotype of a young girl in a very rare beehive union case, in very good condition for its age. This dates from c.1856-1857. The image is very sharp with slight fading in the center, as shown. Gold pendant treatment added by the studio. Berg's book on union cases indicates that this case, #1-90, is very rare. The case has a chip on the top edge, as shown, and a couple of other hard-to-see chips on the edges as well. The pad is in nice condition, and the hinges are strong and close securely. Beautiful design on the case featuring a beehive, flowers, bees, and garden tools!
