This is a paper knife/letter opener commemorating the opening of the Sanyo Shinkansen during the Japanese National Railways (JNR) era. It's a commemorative item from 1972. My father received it when he worked at the JNR conductor's section. The handle has a picture of the Shinkansen from that time, but it's old and slightly faded.
