Guild F-50SB, 1974 (Made in the golden-era Westerly factory) A legendary jumbo-body guitar that embodies the golden era of 70s Guild. It's characterized by its powerful resonance, compression, and the dry sound of maple. Purchased about two years ago from a guitar shop in Shibuya, immediately after a refret. It's in a condition that allows for long-term use with peace of mind. Recently, the shim that was under the saddle was removed, and a new bone saddle was made and replaced. At that time, the string height was adjusted to approximately 2.7mm at the 12th fret of the 6th string. The neck condition is also good, and it was possible to lower it further, but this setting was chosen to retain the rugged torque characteristic of Guild guitars. It has been played quite a bit, and there are pick scratches around the soundhole, but for a guitar that suits aggressive strumming, it's like a badge of honor. The sound is truly explosive. The strong spruce top, jet-black ebony fingerboard, and the crisp attack unique to hard maple combine with the rich bass of the round back/jumbo body, producing a wide-ranging, piano-like sound. Personally, I prefer the solid feel of this F-50 over the J200, and it's the perfect guitar for rough strumming. Yet, it also has the depth to respond brilliantly even when gently fingerpicked with arpeggios. It also works well with microphones, and you can record a typical, gritty Guild sound with just a Shure SM57 or other common dynamic microphone, without using an expensive preamp.
