The Sutra for the Treatment of Hemorrhoids (Sanskrit: Arśapraśamanasūtra, Tibetan: Gshan ḥbrum rab-tu shi-bar-byed-paḥi mdo) is a sutra and mantra (also known as dhāraṇī or spell) translated by the Tang dynasty monk Yijing. It is often simply referred to as the Sutra for the Treatment of Hemorrhoids (Ryojibyo-kyo). The mantra alone is also known as the Cancer Curing Mantra. It is recorded in the Taisho Tripitaka, Volume 21, and the Daizokyo, Volume 0734. The Sutra for the Treatment of Hemorrhoids According to the scripture, if one sincerely recites this sutra and mantra according to the related rituals, it can cure malignant diseases such as inflammation of various organs, pain, tumors, and cancer (in ancient times, hemorrhoids referred to cancer). During this period, abstaining from alcohol, meat, sexual misconduct, false speech, and the five pungent vegetables, as well as practicing almsgiving and the freeing of animals, are said to further enhance the effect.
