This item was used by my mother at her Buddhist altar. I bought a new one, so I was displaying this one as an antique. When I received it from my mother, I cleaned off the candle wax, etc. There are no cracks or breaks. There are some color scratches from polishing, but it has a nice shine and I think it's in beautiful condition. The material is unknown, but it's quite sturdy and heavy.
